I am a bit fanatical about kitchen design. I cook every day, often with the kids, and therefore spend a lot of time with my family gathered around our center island. My current kitchen is a sleek and modern black and white, recently renovated by the apartment’s previous owners about four years ago. When we moved in, we decided to keep the look, despite my more classic stark-white kitchen dreams. Everything from the cabinetry to the appliances had been barely used and it fit in with the modern aesthetic and open floor plan of the overall space.
Since then, I have been looking for accessories to turn the feel into more of a transitional space. One of my new, and most useful items is this cloche from LSA International via Amara Living, that I hunted around for, for a very long time. It is the first, and possibly only one I have found that isn’t a more traditional dome. I wanted the French bakery feel but a little less antique Provence and a little more contemporary Paris.
When feeding a family of four, we constantly have leftover fruits and vegetables that I find easily turn into wonderful baked goods – banana muffins, zucchini bread, spinach cakes. I needed a storage accessory that I could showcase the items that would be eaten during the week and not stuffed into the depths of our freezer.
This cloche is sleek enough to stand up against the dramatic black counter-top. But, the natural wood and glass lighten up the kitchen a bit, and give it a more lived-in, family feeling instead of an edgy, museum-like appearance.
Plus, it keeps items fresh for days, including those half eaten pastries that you “thought” would be a hit.
